The Government Spokesperson’s Office Got an Award for Including Everyone in Their Messages
Dr. Nasongo also shared plans to make future awards even stronger through evidence-based assessments and partnerships, a step that will continue to recognize and celebrate meaningful impact.

The Government Spokesperson's Office got some love for making sure everyone can get their message! They won the Inclusive Public Communication Award for 2025 at the National Gender and Disability Inclusion (GEDI) Awards in Nairobi.

This is the fourth time the office has been told they're doing a good job this year. It shows they're really trying to make sure their messages are easy to understand and helpful for women, people with disabilities, and other groups who are often left out.

Lots of important people from the government, charities, and businesses were at the awards to celebrate how far Kenya has come in being a place where everyone belongs. The Government Spokesperson was the main guest and said the award was for everyone working together.

The Government Spokesperson gave a shout-out to the Gender and Disability Development Centre (GDDC) for always pushing for inclusion. People see the Centre's work as more than a job -- they want to make sure no one gets left behind.

The Government Spokesperson talked about how Kenya has been working to give equal rights to women, people with disabilities, and other groups. He said it's important to think about how different forms of discrimination can overlap and affect people.

He was also happy about the new national plan for ethnic minorities, saying it will really help make things fairer. The Government Spokesperson promised that the government will keep working to make sure women and people with disabilities are included in everything they do.

Everyone at the event was asked to keep pushing for inclusion, make policies work better, communicate in a way that everyone can understand, and team up to make equality a reality.

Dr. Richard Nasongo from the Gender and Disability Development Centre said that Kenya has made real progress in equality and inclusion. He mentioned things like budgets that consider gender, schools that include everyone, buildings that are easy for people with disabilities to use, and more help for people who need it.

But, Dr. Nasongo also said there are still problems to fix. Things like buses that aren't easy to get on, trouble finding jobs, negative attitudes, not enough women in the economy, and not enough information about people with disabilities to assist with planning.

The Government Spokesperson congratulated everyone who was nominated for an award, saying their work is making a difference. Dr. Nasongo said that they want to improve the awards to better celebrate the things that are making a difference.

The event ended with everyone promising to keep working to make Kenya a place where everyone belongs, especially with the holidays coming up.
