Residents Benefit From Free Spine Care in Nandi County
County officials said the success of the outreach has prompted plans to roll out similar programmes in other parts of Nandi County.

Rural Communities Get Chiropractic Outreach for Four Days

The free spinal and musculoskeletal care services were made available to the people of Tindiret Sub County, Nandi County, after a four-day chiropractic outreach program organized by the County Government of Nandi in partnership with the University of Eldoret and Life University from the United States. The program aimed at alleviating chronic back pain, misalignments of the spine, and joint-related problems prevalently affecting individuals in rural communities.

The outreach was set at Meteitei Sub-County Hospital, with hundreds of patients being drawn from diverse sectors-farmers, teachers, and older residents. Professional assessment, chiropractic treatment, practical advice on posture, exercises, and preventive care aimed at improving the long-term spinal health of participants was all offered through this program.

County-University Partnership Increases Availability of Specialized Care

According to County Health Executive Committee Member Dr Angeline Kirui, the initiative was designed to increase access to highly specialized health services which are often not available or are too expensive for many rural residents. Ignoring spinal and musculoskeletal conditions may ultimately lead to disability and reduced productivity.

Dr Kirui added such outreach programs are in line with what the county government has pledged to do in terms of alleviating preventable disability and improving the overall quality of life for the residents through targeted health interventions.

Health experts from the University of Eldoret and Life University emphasized the need for partnerships or collaboration between local government and higher learning institutions to build health capacity at the local level, increase awareness of non-invasive treatment options, and promote preventive care at a community level.

Plans to Scale Up Similar Programs

County officials admitted that due to positive turnout and overwhelming response from residents, the need for such programs has established the groundwork to be used for similar chiropractic and specialized healthcare programs in the rest of Nandi County.

Extension of these outreach programs would fill the gaps in access to specialized services while enhancing community empowerment through education in preventive healthcare and healthy living practices.
