DCI Recovers Heroin Worth Sh1.19 Million, Apprehends Suspected Dealer in Nakuru
“Usiogope. Pamoja, tunaweza kujenga Kenya salama na isiyo na dawa za kulevya,” the DCI urged.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested a suspected trafficker in drugs and seized heroin said to be worth some Sh1.19 million in Nakuru County, thus intensifying the war on narcotics. An operation led by intelligence officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) formed part of ongoing efforts to stamp out drug distribution networks in urban centers.

The suspect was arrested as he was riding a motorcycle registration number KMEC 785W suspectedly carrying drugs. According to the investigators, the suspect's conduct raised suspicion, considering the bag that he was carrying.

Heroin Recovered During Search

While detective officers searched his luggage, they recovered 397 grams of heroin that had allegedly been wrapped in an elaborate manner and was awaiting distribution. Authorities stated that the packaging method reflected organized drug trafficking and not personal use. The heroin recovered on-site was evaluated at Sh1.19 million, an indication that the illegal drug trade was on a bigger scale and much worse.

In addition to heroin, officers recovered other items believed to be used in drug distribution and consumption, including two syringes and needles, ten rolls of bhang, and three packets of Supermatch cigarettes. Investigators noted that the combination of recovered items further strengthened suspicions that the suspect was actively involved in drug trafficking activities within Nakuru and its environs.

Disruption of Local Drug Supply Network

Detectives believe that the arrest has significantly disrupted an active drug supply chain operating in Nakuru and its neighboring areas. DCI says these intelligence-driven operations are crucial in identifying and dismantling networks that fuel drug abuse, mostly among youths.

After his arrest, Kariuki was placed under police custody, where he is being held as investigations continue. Authorities say that when the investigations are all complete, the suspect will be arraigned in court to answer charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotics.

DCI Reaffirms War on Drug Trafficking

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations restated its commitment to the war on drug trafficking via continued operations, intelligence sharing, and joint operations with other security agencies. The agency noted its zero-tolerance approach toward drug offenses and warned that no one regardless of influence or status would be spared by the law.

The DCI also called upon the public to collaborate with law enforcement in the reporting of any suspected drug-related activities. Citizens can share any such information anonymously through the #FichuaKwaDCI initiative by calling toll-free number 0800 722 203 or sending a WhatsApp text to 0709 570 000.

In closing, the agency encouraged Kenyans not to fear to speak out against crimes, noting that cooperation from the community would go a long way in making neighborhoods safer.
