Kenya’s Cabinet Secretary for Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, Hon. Hassan Ali Joho, has called for greater collaboration across Africa to drive sustainable development in the mining and energy sectors.
Joho was speaking at the 4th African Natural Resources and Energy Investment Summit (AFNIS), currently underway in Abuja, Nigeria, where he attended at the invitation of Hon. Dr. Oladele Alake, Nigeria’s Minister of Solid Minerals.

The summit is themed “Harnessing Local Content for Sustainable Development”, and brings together African leaders and stakeholders to explore how countries can better leverage their mineral wealth for inclusive growth.
“I used the opportunity to rally African countries and stakeholders to redefine critical minerals, close infrastructure gaps, and create wealth for the citizenry through value addition of our mineral resources,” Joho stated.
Strengthening Kenya-Nigeria mining cooperation
On the sidelines of the summit, CS Joho held bilateral talks with Dr. Alake, where the two leaders agreed to jointly promote local content initiatives in their respective mining sectors.
Their discussions focused on developing regional strategies for sustainable resource management, enhancing local capacity, and ensuring that communities benefit directly from mining activities.
The Cabinet Secretary shared the update through his official social media handles, emphasizing Kenya’s commitment to intra-African collaboration, value addition, and resource-based industrialization.
