Police in Kadzandani have arrested a suspect and recovered 1,555 cartons of milk following an elaborate fraud investigation targeting a Mombasa-based milk distributor. The update was shared by the National Police Service via its official social media platforms.
Suspicious Orders Raise Alarm
According to the police statement, the investigation began after Agnes Waraba, Sales and Marketing Officer at Mayford Investment’s Mombasa Depot, flagged multiple large orders placed by a new client, Geoffrey Gema Waweru.“Between 5 and 18 July, the suspect ordered milk worth KSh 1,855,400 and shared edited M-Pesa confirmation messages,” police noted.
Forged SMS Confirmations Exposed
The SMS payment messages were allegedly sent from an Airtel number, which did not correspond with any of the company’s official mobile money records.“The confirmations appeared legitimate but were later discovered to be falsified,” the statement added.
Delivery Trap Leads to Arrest
On 19 July, Mayford Investment arranged a final delivery of 150 cartons to Mtopanga, Kadzandani, this time in coordination with police. Officers followed the delivery vehicle and arrested Susan Mawiya, who received the consignment.
Hidden Stock Uncovered
Susan led police to two single-room houses where 1,555 cartons of milk, valued at KSh 960,232, were recovered.
Search for Main Suspect Continues
“Efforts are underway to locate Geoffrey Gema Waweru and any other individuals linked to the fraudulent scheme,” police said, adding that investigations are ongoing.
The National Police Service commended Mayford Investment for its swift action, which helped prevent further financial loss.
