Gachagua Condemns Alleged Police Brutality in Murang’a
a statement shared via his social media handles, Gachagua — currently on a two-month tour of the U.S. — criticized President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for allegedly directing the attack.

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned a violent incident at Ngonda Shopping Centre in Murang’a County, blaming what he terms "state-sponsored militia" and rogue police officers.

In a statement shared via his social media handles, Gachagua — currently on a two-month tour of the U.S. — criticized President William Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen for allegedly directing the attack.

Allegations of Violence After Church Service

According to Gachagua, the incident occurred shortly after a church service on Sunday. He accused law enforcement of beating up civilians and political leaders.

“This is barbaric, dictatorial, and violence against the very soul of our nation,” Gachagua wrote. He said such actions violate Kenya’s Constitution and go against the democratic gains made since 2010.

Accusations Against the President

Gachagua directly addressed the President, questioning his moral stance. “What do you gain through deaths and bloodshed? How do you go to church and reconcile your conscience while instructing police and goons to kill?” He asked.

He drew comparisons between Ruto and past African dictators, including Idi Amin and Sani Abacha, stating that Kenya does not belong in such a league.

Call for Accountability

Gachagua demanded the arrest and prosecution of the officers involved. He also warned Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja that justice will eventually prevail.

“Do you think Kenyans will love you by force and intimidation?” he posed, accusing the government of using force to silence critics.

The remarks come during a time of growing political tensions back home, as the former Deputy President continues his international engagements.
