MCA Demands Probe into Mbulia Land Dealings
The MCA has called for the County Assembly’s Lands, Physical Planning, and Urban Development Committee to investigate how much land was sold, the price per acre, and the total amount received. He insists on a full accounting of how the proceeds were used, including details of any funded community projects.-

Ngolia Ward MCA, Hon. Jones Solomon Mghanga, has raised the alarm over the management of Mbulia Community Land. Speaking during the County Assembly’s 055th afternoon sitting, he questioned why the Community Land Management Committee (CLMC), elected in 2022, has failed to hold a single Annual General Meeting (AGM) as required by law.

Mghanga is demanding clarification on the legitimacy of the current CLMC, including the exact date of their election and whether their term aligns with the Community Land Act, 2016. He has expressed concern that the committee’s continued operations may be unlawful if no formal mandate exists.

Devki Land Sale Under Scrutiny

A key focus of his concerns is a land deal between the Mbulia community and Devki Steel Mills. The MCA has called for the County Assembly’s Lands, Physical Planning, and Urban Development Committee to investigate how much land was sold, the price per acre, and the total amount received. He insists on a full accounting of how the proceeds were used, including details of any funded community projects.

Funds and Subdivisions in Question

Hon. Mghanga also seeks to know the current bank balance from the Devki sale and the specific bank holding the funds. Additionally, he raised alarm over reports of ongoing land subdivisions, demanding answers on whether these actions had any consultation or consent from the wider community.

14-Day Deadline for Report

The MCA has called for immediate action, including the scheduling of an overdue AGM to restore transparency. In response, the Chairperson of the Lands Committee, Hon. Anisa Mwakio, has been given a 14-day ultimatum to table a detailed report on the matter.

Hon. Mghanga’s firm stance reflects growing public demand for transparency in community land dealings and responsible leadership in Taita Taveta county.
