Ghana is reeling after a military helicopter crash in Sikaman Forest, Adansi South District, claimed the lives of eight individuals, including top government officials and military personnel.The tragic incident occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, near Obuasi, during a high-level government mission.
Last-Minute Change Saved President
According to reports by Ghbase News, President John Dramani Mahama was initially scheduled to attend the Obuasi event. However, he delegated the duty to Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, a decision that may have spared his life.

“President John Dramani Mahama was supposed to be on that helicopter but asked Dr. Omane Boamah to represent him at the last minute,” Ghbase News reported.
The helicopter carrying Dr. Boamah and other senior officials crashed shortly after takeoff, leaving no survivors.

Victims Include Top Officials
Among the deceased were:
Two government ministers
Several national security officers
Three military crew members
Emergency response teams were deployed to the site, and investigations into the cause of the crash are underway.
