The Eldoret National Polytechnic (TENP) Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Coordinator, Janet Isoka, has called on students to become ambassadors of the RPL program within their communities.
Speaking during the September 2025 first-year orientation at the institution’s square grounds, Ms. Isoka addressed more than 2,000 freshers, urging them to inform people back home with skills but lacking formal papers to enroll in the affordable, highly valuable RPL program at TENP, whose certificates are widely recognized and can secure jobs anywhere in the labor market just like those from the formal system.
She emphasized that RPL is not only about formalizing learning but also about empowering individuals who have acquired skills through experience, apprenticeships, or informal training.

Affordable Certification
Ms. Isoka reassured the students that the RPL certification is highly affordable and valuable, removing barriers that discourage skilled individuals, and its recognition allows holders to compete in the job market equally with formally trained candidates.
She explained that assessments would be conducted in the languages most familiar to candidates, ensuring inclusivity and comfort for all.
“We will use the language they understand best, so they should not fear coming forward. Please be our ambassadors and spread the word that certification is available for everyone,” she stated.
Bridging Experience and Qualifications
The RPL program is designed to bridge the gap between practical skills and formal recognition, offering an official platform for individuals whose competencies might otherwise go unnoticed. By awarding certification, the initiative allows skilled individuals to access better opportunities in employment and entrepreneurship.
Ms. Isoka noted that communities stand to benefit greatly when their members are certified, as it boosts productivity, competitiveness, and personal growth.

TENP’s Commitment to Skills Recognition
Under the leadership of Chief Principal Dr. Charles Koech, OGW, TENP has been recognized as a leading institution in RPL certification. Dr. Koech has repeatedly emphasized the polytechnic’s commitment to aligning technical and vocational training with Kenya’s development goals.
By spearheading the certification process, TENP is playing a vital role in ensuring that Kenyans with valuable skills are not left behind, while at the same time solidifying its position as one of the country’s leading technical institutions.
