A postmortem examination has confirmed that former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Shakhalaga Khwa Jirongo died from blunt force trauma sustained in a road traffic accident along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway on 13 December 2025.

Postmortem findings

The autopsy was conducted on 17 December 2025 at Lee Funeral Home by a team of pathologists, including the family-appointed expert, Dr Joseph Ndung’u. The examination revealed extensive injuries consistent with a high-impact collision.

Pathologists established that Jirongo suffered multiple fractures, including injuries to the right hand and both lower limbs. The chest sustained severe crush injuries, with multiple rib fractures, perforation of the heart, and rupture of major blood vessels, resulting in massive internal bleeding.

Further examination showed significant abdominal trauma, including liver damage and internal bleeding, while the spinal cord was found to be severed at the thoracic level, indicating extreme force at the point of impact.

“We have looked at the body of the late Jirongo; it had multiple injuries. There were two fractures involving the right hand and both lower limbs,” Dr Ndung’u said.

Details of the crash

The fatal accident occurred at around 2:19 a.m. near the Karai area in Naivasha, when Jirongo’s vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Company Ltd bus.

Preliminary findings by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) indicate that CCTV footage captured Jirongo’s car entering a nearby petrol station shortly before the collision.

Ongoing investigations

Investigators are continuing to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the crash. Additional CCTV footage has been secured, and witness statements recorded as part of the ongoing probe.

Once investigations are concluded, the case file will be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for further direction.
