Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o has called for unity and mutual respect within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), urging members to remain steadfast in the party’s founding principles amid growing internal instability.

Speaking as a founding member of ODM and its pioneer Secretary General, Prof Nyong’o said the party’s strength lies in its shared values and collective discipline. He emphasized the need for leaders and members to recommit themselves to the ideals that shaped the movement.

“As a founding member of ODM and the party’s pioneer Secretary General and custodian of its policies and principles, I urge for unity and mutual respect within the party ranks,” Nyong’o said. “The party leadership and members have to remain steadfast in the party’s core values of democracy, inclusivity and social justice for the people.”

His remarks come at a time when ODM has witnessed signs of instability, characterized by internal disagreements, competing political interests, and public exchanges among some party figures. The developments have raised concern among supporters about cohesion and discipline within the party ranks.

Political analysts say the current turbulence presents a defining moment for ODM, noting that how the party manages its internal differences will shape its future relevance and influence. Calls have intensified for dialogue, consultation, and adherence to party structures to prevent further fragmentation.

Prof Nyong’o cautioned against allowing personal ambitions to override collective responsibility, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s ability to effectively serve the public. He urged members to resolve disputes through established mechanisms rather than public confrontation.
