Guinness World Records (GWR) has officially responded to Kenyan environmental activist Truphena Muthoni’s latest bid to set a new world record for the longest tree-hugging marathon, an attempt that has captivated Kenyans online and drawn widespread admiration from environmental enthusiasts.

Muthoni, who recently completed a 72-hour tree-hugging challenge in Nyeri County, has continued to rise as a symbol of youth-led conservation efforts. Her marathon embrace of nature—intended to highlight the importance of forests, mental wellness, and climate action—has been celebrated across the country.

GWR Clarifies Current Record

In a statement shared across its social media platforms, Guinness World Records commended Muthoni’s passion but clarified that her officially recognized record remains the 48-hour achievement she set earlier this year in Nairobi.

GWR noted:

*“Truphena Muthoni's tree hugging record attempt this week in Kenya, inspired by ‘a deep-rooted passion for trees and the vital role they play in our ecosystem,’ has in turn inspired many comments on our social channels.

Awaiting Verification

The organization emphasized that any new record attempt must pass through a strict validation process, including submission of:

Continuous video evidence

Time logs

Signed witness statements

Confirmation of adherence to official guidelines

Muthoni’s team is currently compiling the required documents. If approved, her 72-hour effort will surpass her own standing record by a substantial margin.

Beyond the Record: A Growing Environmental Movement

While the world awaits official confirmation, Muthoni’s activism continues to spark national conversations. Her symbolic tree-hugging marathons have drawn attention to:

Deforestation

Climate change

Mental health awareness

The importance of reconnecting with nature

Her method—simple, peaceful, and deeply symbolic—has resonated with thousands, especially young Kenyans who see her as a rising voice for environmental protection.

As verification proceeds, supporters across the country continue to celebrate Muthoni’s resilience and unwavering passion for the planet.
