Mau Forest Gets 10-Year Boost in New Conservation Drive

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change has unveiled the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihood Improvement Programme (MCF-ICLIP), a ten-year initiative targeting Eastern, Molo, Western, and Southwest Mau blocks.

“This legacy programme aims to restore and sustainably manage the Mau Forest Complex through an integrated conservation and livelihoods improvement approach,” said Principal Secretary Dr Eng Festus K. Ng’eno.

Broad Conservation Scope

The programme seeks to enhance ecosystem functionality and strengthen climate resilience across the landscape. Its five components include:

Sustainable Landscape Management

Community Livelihood Improvement

Circular Economy

Environmental Education & Research

Project Governance, Monitoring & Resource Mobilisation

Stakeholders in Attendance

The resource mobilisation meeting in Nairobi was attended by key conservation leaders including:

Christian Lambrechts – Executive Director, Rhino Ark

Jackson Kiplagat – Head Conservation Programmes, WWF-Kenya

Samson Toniok – CEO, NETFUND

George Tarus – Secretary Forest Development

Agnes Yobterik – KALROAlso present were representatives from NEMA, KFS, and Nyayo Tea Zones.
