MERU, Kenya — Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change and Forestry, Deborah Barasa, has led senior government officials in mourning with Principal Secretary Gitonga Mugambi and his family following the death of his brother, the late Lewis Murithi Mugambi.

A Devoted Family Man Remembered
Murithi, described as a devoted son, brother, and businessman, was laid to rest at his home in Uruku Nkandone Village, Meru County. His life, though cut short, was marked by dedication to family and community.
In a post she shared online through her social media handles, CS Barasa noted that his passing is not only a reminder of the fleeting nature of life but also a call to cherish the bonds of family and friendship.
Our prayer is that God grants the Mugambi family peace, healing, and strength, and that Murithi’s memory remains a source of inspiration to all who knew him,” she shared through her official social media platforms
Leaders Stand in Solidarity
The solemn ceremony brought together Principal Secretaries, senior officers, and leaders from across government, all of whom stood in unity with the Mugambi family during their time of grief. Their presence reflected the collective support of the government leadership in moments of personal loss.
CS Barasa, accompanied by her ministry’s leadership team, emphasized the importance of compassion and solidarity during such times, saying that moments of sorrow are made bearable when families and communities stand together.

Message of Faith and Strength
The Environment CS urged Kenyans to draw comfort from God in times of grief, highlighting that faith provides resilience when facing loss.
“His passing is a reminder of how fleeting life is, but also of the strength and comfort we can draw from God and from one another in moments of sorrow,” she said.
As the Mugambi family begins the journey of healing, the outpouring of support from leaders, colleagues, and the wider community served as a testament to the impact Murithi had on those around him.
