PS Ng’eno, World Bank Team Hold Talks on Climate Action
The discussions mark a continued partnership between the Kenyan government and the World Bank in advancing climate-smart policies and strengthening institutional frameworks for sustainable environmental management.

The Principal Secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, today held discussions with a World Bank delegation led by Saku Akmeemana on the role of the Bank in environment and climate change. The meeting, held at his office in Nairobi, explored how the World Bank can help address fiscal pressures, foster economic growth, and strengthen climate action, in line with Kenya’s commitment to structural reforms.

Supporting Kenya’s Climate Agenda

The PS highlighted the World Bank’s support in financing climate resilience projects that align with the government’s environmental policies. Among them is the Financing Locally-Led Climate Action Programme (FLLoCA), which channels devolved climate finance to counties.

“The Ministry has benefited from the review of the Carbon Markets Regulations 2023 and the Forest Management and Coordination Act with the Bank under the Development Policy Operation (DPO),” Dr. Ng’eno said.

Strengthening Environmental Compliance

On private sector participation, the PS emphasized the importance of adhering to environmental laws.

“We are working to strengthen NEMA to effectively enforce these laws for environmental posterity,” he noted, underlining the government’s commitment to compliance and enforcement.

World Bank Commitment

The World Bank delegation reaffirmed its commitment to working with Kenya on sustainable development and climate resilience. The collaboration is expected to support Kenya in meeting its environmental targets while cushioning the economy against climate-related shocks.

Meeting Attendees

The PS was accompanied by Vicky Betty from the Programs and Projects Department. The World Bank team included Maria Elema Pinglo, Vaideesh Sankaran, and other officials.
