Kilifi County Referral Hospital has received new point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) machines, donated by the Emergency Medicine Kenya Foundation (EMKF). Edward Mumbo and Dr. Angore emphasized the importance of high-quality healthcare standards.
The officials explained the machines “provide immediate diagnostic imaging at a patient's bedside, in an ambulance, or at a remote location,” allowing staff to respond quickly in emergencies where every second matters.

Life-Saving Technology
In trauma and emergency cases, POCUS helps detect life-threatening conditions such as internal bleeding or collapsed lungs. Quick diagnosis guides rapid treatment, improving survival chances and reducing delays in critical care.
Reducing Transfers and Suffering
The leadership highlighted that these machines will “reduce costly transfers, decrease patient suffering and deaths, and ultimately improve emergency medical services for all of Kilifi County,” strengthening the county’s emergency response capacity.
The initiative ensures that the POCUS machines are “powerful diagnostic tools, not just equipment.” Training local healthcare providers maximizes their potential, building long-term skills and improving emergency care quality throughout the county.

A Milestone for Kilifi Health
The Kilifi Department of Health and Sanitation Services shared this update on official social media handles. With advanced equipment and skilled personnel, emergency care in Kilifi County is now faster, more accurate, and lifesaving.
