Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has joined Kenyans and global leaders in mourning the late Raila Amollo Odinga, Kenya’s former Prime Minister and one of the country’s most revered political figures.

In a statement shared through his official social media handles, Gachagua paid glowing tribute to Odinga, describing him as “the father of our democracy and a formidable hero of Kenya’s second liberation.” He praised Odinga’s courage and resilience, recalling how he endured imprisonment, torture, and detention in his relentless fight for democracy and justice.

A Legacy of Service and Leadership

Gachagua further highlighted Odinga’s long and dedicated service to the nation — as a political activist, civil servant, lecturer, minister, and prime minister. He noted that Odinga’s influence and achievements remain deeply engraved in Kenya’s political history.

He also acknowledged his admiration for Odinga’s ability to form and sustain a strong political party that withstood multiple general elections, nurturing capable leaders who embodied his democratic ideals.
