Stephen K. Tanui who serves as the Chairman of the Kenya Youth Organisation has achieved the status of record holder for tree-hugging after he completed more than 86 hours of tree-hugging during an endurance competition conducted at Ziwa in the Soy Constituency of Uasin Gishu County.
The record-breaking feat drew wide attention from local residents and authorities and tested Tanui’s physical strength and mental resilience. He attributed his success to divine protection and the unwavering support of friends well-wishers and community members who stood by him throughout the entire challenge.

Tanui expressed appreciation to the people of Ziwa and Ziwa Hospital and Ziwa Police Station and Team Chepkumiat and the Ziwa Administration through the Chief’s office because the achievement required their prayers and visits and constant encouragement. He stated that the local community had shown strong unity which created a lasting impression on him because he planned to return to the area in the future.
Tanui used the event to promote a message that emphasized the importance of national unity and youth empowerment to the audience. He addressed his supporters by stating his dedication to constructing an empowered generation of young Kenyans while he demanded the elimination of tribalism and the establishment of equal opportunities for everyone.
Tanui described the Ziwa Level 5 Hospital project as vital for completed construction work and required all Ziwa residents to enroll in the Social Health Assurance (SHA) program. He said access to quality healthcare is a key pillar of national development.
His remarks included environmental conservation and climate action as significant topics. Tanui urged young people to take an active role in protecting forests rivers and other natural resources and he stressed the need for sustainable practices to safeguard the environment.
He further highlighted his ongoing efforts to nurture ethical leadership through youth mentorship programmes aimed at equipping future leaders with essential skills and values. Tanui called attention to the educational and social problems that boys face by demanding better mentorship and improved access to education and better welfare support for the boy child.
“Young people will shape the future so we must act without delay,” Tanui said while he called upon communities and government officials and young people to join forces and establish a healthier and more unified nation.
Tanui has established himself as a dedicated leader who supports the interests of Kenya’s youth through his record-breaking accomplishments and his ongoing efforts to promote social and environmental and youth development initiatives.
