The County Assembly of Taita Taveta has officially welcomed Hon. Ann Wambui Mukuru, who was sworn in during the afternoon sitting No. 062. Her nomination comes under the Wiper Democratic Movement party, marking a significant step toward reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to inclusivity and gender representation.
Hon. Mukuru takes over the position following the unfortunate demise of Hon. Constance Mwandawiro, who passed away on August 24, 2023. The late Mwandawiro was a respected figure in the Assembly and a passionate advocate for women and community development.
Strengthening Representation
Hon. Mukuru’s entry into the Assembly is seen as not just a replacement but an opportunity to inject new energy and perspectives into legislative processes. Leaders in the Assembly emphasized that her nomination upholds the principles of equity and ensures that the voices of women continue to be heard and represented at the county level.
"This appointment not only strengthens our commitment to gender representation but also brings fresh perspectives and energy to the Assembly,” the Assembly’s statement read in part.
Carrying the Legacy Forward
As Hon. Mukuru assumes office, she inherits both the responsibility of representation and the legacy of her predecessor. Members of the Assembly expressed confidence in her ability to champion the interests of the people, particularly women and marginalized groups.

Her swearing-in was marked with a warm reception by fellow members who pledged their support and collaboration. The leadership noted that her presence would contribute meaningfully to debates and policymaking processes that seek to uplift the people of Taita Taveta.
A Symbol of Hope
The Assembly's statement concluded with a message of unity and anticipation: “We wholeheartedly congratulate Hon. Mukuru on this significant milestone and look forward to her contributions as she embarks on this vital journey in service to our community and the people of Taita Taveta.”
As Hon. Mukuru settles into her new role, all eyes will be on her to deliver and make a meaningful impact on the legislative agenda of the county.
