Ruto Urges Uhuru to Respect His Office and Let Kenya Move Forward

By Otieno Patrick

President William Ruto has criticised retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, accusing him of undermining the Kenya Kwanza administration and mobilising political forces against the government.

Speaking in Sindo, Homa Bay County, Ruto claimed that Uhuru had been involved in organising demonstrations and bringing together different political formations to challenge his administration.

Ruto tells Uhuru to step back

The President questioned Uhuru’s continued involvement in active politics and urged him to respect the office of a retired Head of State.

“You are a retired president. Respect your office. Go and relax. Watch as we organise this country of Kenya,” Ruto said.

Ruto further accused the former President of attempting to unite opposition groups against his administration, saying such efforts could undermine the country’s stability.

President defends government programmes

Ruto also criticised the previous administration over what he described as failures to implement key economic and social programmes.

He cited Universal Health Coverage and the Affordable Housing Programme, arguing that Uhuru was now opposing initiatives that his administration had also pursued.

“Respectfully, I am asking my brother Uhuru Kenyatta, hii maneno unapanga na hawa watu wa Linda Sponsors sijui nini, ati umewaambia wakuje wapingane na sisi,” Ruto said.

The President questioned whether opposition to his government’s programmes was linked to what he described as shortcomings during Uhuru’s tenure.

“Ati unatupiga kwa sababu ile kazi ulishindwa ya uchumi, ati kwa sababu tumefaulu unataka ipingwe.”

Ruto calls for focus on Kenya

Ruto said the country’s interests should come before individual political ambitions.

“My brother, the country is bigger than any individual, including you. Wacha Kenya isonge mbele, my friend.”

He said he was making the appeal to Uhuru “in all humility,” urging the former President to respect the office he once held.

The remarks come amid renewed political activity and realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with political parties and leaders increasingly positioning themselves ahead of the polls.
