Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro has assured residents that his administration is committed to ensuring transparency and efficiency in the management of key county funds.
Appearance Before Senate Committee
Governor Mung’aro on Thursday appeared before the Senate Committee on County Public Investments and Special Funds, chaired by Senator Godfrey Osotsi. The committee sought clarification on four major county funds for the 2023/2024 financial year — the Kilifi County Microfinance (Wezesha Fund), Kilifi County Ward Scholarship Fund, Kilifi Emergency Fund, and the Kilifi County Climate Change Fund.

“My administration remains committed to ensuring that people of Kilifi fully benefit from these critical funds,” Governor Mung’aro said.
Streamlining the Wezesha Fund
The Governor revealed that earlier in the week, he chaired a Cabinet meeting with County Executive Committee Members to discuss reforms to the Wezesha Fund.
“One of the main agenda items was streamlining the Wezesha Fund to operate more efficiently and reach more residents,” he noted.
Education Partnership Agreement
Governor Mung’aro also highlighted a milestone achievement in education financing for the county.
“Kilifi is among the few counties to have signed an Intergovernmental Partnership Agreement (IPA) with the Ministry of Education,” he said. “This will allow us to directly manage the Kilifi County Scholarship Fund, ensuring faster, more transparent, and needs-driven support for our students.”
Commitment to Accountability
In his closing remarks, the Governor pledged continued cooperation with national oversight bodies.
“We value and welcome the Senate’s oversight role and reaffirm our commitment to collaboration and accountability as we work to deliver better services for the people of Kilifi,” he stated.

According to the Kenya Institute for Public Policy Research and Analysis (KIPPRA) 2024 County Governance Report, counties that enhance transparency in public fund management tend to record higher citizen satisfaction and improved service delivery.
The report notes that oversight by the Senate and active community engagement are critical in safeguarding public resources — principles echoed in Governor Mung’aro’s assurances.
