“She was a fearless advocate for equality whose work shaped our democracy and opened doors for women in leadership.” He noted.

The President extended his sympathy to her family and community, stating: “Our thoughts are with the family, friends and the people of Karachuonyo.” He added that the nation was united in mourning a leader whose contributions will remain etched in Kenya’s democratic journey.

A Trailblazer in Kenya’s Political History

Hon. Phoebe Asiyo made history as the first woman to be elected Member of Parliament for Karachuonyo Constituency, serving for over two decades.

She was also the first woman to serve as a Senior Superintendent of Prisons in Kenya and played a pivotal role in championing gender equality both in Parliament and in civic life.
