Nairobi, Kenya — Environment and Climate Change Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa has reiterated Kenya’s commitment to driving Africa’s climate adaptation agenda.
In a statement shared through her social media handles, Barasa said she was honored to join a high-level meeting in Nairobi chaired by Prof. Patrick Verkooijen, CEO of the Global Center on Adaptation (GCA), focusing on advancing Africa’s Adaptation Programme through the Africa Adaptation Acceleration Program (AAAP).

Recognizing Leadership in Adaptation
Barasa praised the recognition of President William Ruto for his global leadership in championing adaptation, calling it a proud moment for Kenya and Africa.
“I emphasized the promise of AAAP 2.0 and Kenya’s leadership in driving adaptation. From food security and digital climate tools for farmers, to improved waste management and flood protection, real impact is visible,” she noted.
Financing and Equity at the Core
While progress has been made, Barasa highlighted the urgent need to scale up financing, especially for vulnerable nations most affected by climate change.She stressed that adaptation must be science-driven, locally grounded, and anchored in inclusion, equity, and transparency.

Kenya’s Commitment
The CS reaffirmed that Kenya will continue to lead collaborative, people-centered climate action, positioning itself at the forefront of Africa’s adaptation efforts under AAAP 2.0.
