Mahama Honors Africa’s Liberation Heroes

“On this day, we pay respect for the memory of our forbearers who fought for our independence and freedom. We do not take their sacrifices for granted,” he said.
A Call for Africa’s Economic Independence
Mahama emphasized that while Africa’s founding fathers secured political independence, modern leaders must now champion economic sovereignty.
“Our forebears won us political independence. It is the responsibility of our current generation of African leadership to win economic independence and prosperity for our people,” he noted.
Addressing Global Economic Inequalities
The Ghanaian president pointed out the systemic global structures that continue to hinder Africa’s growth. He urged the continent to embrace value addition and demand equitable access to its natural resources.
“Africa faces many challenges, including a global order that is rigged against it. The time has come for Africa to add value to African exports, and the time has come for us to claim a fair share of our natural resource endowment,” he added.
Kenya Showcases Tourism and MICE Potential
The celebrations also highlighted Kenya’s continued commitment to boosting its tourism, hospitality, and MICE sectors—key pillars expected to drive economic growth and increase the country’s global competitiveness.
