President William Ruto cast his vote on Saturday at the Koilel Primary School in Uasin Gishu County as the country-wide United Democratic Alliance (UDA) grassroots elections continued at polling centres.

"The elections currently taking place in 20 counties include party members participating in the selection of 20 officials at each of the 20 polling centres. This exercise strengthens the grassroots structure of UDA and enhances internal democracy in the party," President added.

High Candidate Turnout Strengthens Party Structures

President Ruto praised the number of candidates who stepped forward to vie for the bottom-of-the-pyramid leadership positions and deemed the turnout as exceeding expectations. He pointed out how the willingness of party members to donate themselves to leadership signifies the growing confidence in the party and its vision.

As asserted by the president, the active participation of grassroots candidates plays a major role in strengthening UDA and hence advancing the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda. He noted that this agenda is stored on inclusive growth and shared prosperity and requires strong local leadership to translate national policies into benefits felt tangibly by the citizens.

Members Praised for Enjoying Democratic Rights-

The Head of State also praised party members who turned up to vote saying such turnout shows a commitment to democratic principles as well as an active citizenship. This exercise allows members to freely choose leaders who best represent their interests at the local level.

President Ruto reiterated UDA's commitment to democratic governance and responsive leadership that listens to people and delivers on their priorities. He said grassroots elections reflect the party's commitment to empowering the members and ensuring that all leadership is accountable to them.
